QUICK EXAM-FACTS: Eligibility, credentials and qualifications for the license certification-exams requires accreditation of your engineering degree by ABET. Foreign-educated engineers can get an evaluation of their credits, for Abet equivalency by submitting their school transcripts or diplomas to NCEES. The only aids allowed in the Pe Civil engineer-in training, fundamentals of engineering exam is the NCEES formula book which contains equations.No notes, study-guides, manuals, study-materials or media are allowed. The formula book does not contain examples or worked problems. Re-grading appeals for below-cutoff grades or low cut-scores is not permitted.Grading and scoring takes 3 months, the assessment and outcome deficiencies are noted in a diagnostic grade-report.Users who pass or fail are notified by postal mail. Examination candidates or applicants must submit their applications and register before the deadlines with their state licensing board a few months before the April and October dates. The only calculators allowed are on the NCEES list. The Eit exam format has an am, pm and discipline-specific parts.The Pe exams have breadth and depth parts. The difficulties of the exams vary and the cut-off score is adjusted accordingly. Users who fail when getting a grade below the cut-score, can reapply for a retake. Some states grant exemptions for the EIT exam, depending on experience, the criteria depend on the candidate. In most states, the Eit certification has no expiration date. In most states the Pe license expires every two years and requires renewal. The licensure exams test for minimum competence. Pe graduates who need to practice in other states can apply for comity and reciprocity. NCEES publishes a summary of the exam standards and specifications, with outlines of the subjects, topics, in the exam syllabus. NCEES publishes the passing statistics. NCEES now requires registration of users in a database which tracks exam-takes and a record of results of passing or failing exams. Some states have a limit of takes, users who are repeatedly failing exams may get a reevaluation of their credentials. Pe applicants must submit professional references for compliance with state board requirements.

STEP 0

FOR XP USERS ONLY: ACTIVATE NETMEETING IN YOUR COMPUTER

go to the Start menu and select Run

type Conf and click Ok

the Netmeeting configuration wizard will start, go through the installation steps
you will be asked to place a Netmeeting icon on the desktop

continue with instruction 04 below

STEP 1

TO OPEN THE WHITEBOARD FILE

METHOD 1: right-click and save the file

go to your online classroom right-click the WhiteBoard button

right-click on WhiteBoard

select Save Target As

save the file on your desktop ( or create a new folder and save the file to it )

click on Save

after download is complete, Close the download panel if one appears

minimize the online classroom – do not close it

go to the desktop ( or folder ) and locate the file ( the file is called " WHITEBOARD " )

double-click the file

Netmeeting will launch – enter your personal details, finish the initialization

The Netmeeting control panel will come up and a blank whiteboard will appear

If no blank whiteboard appears then do the following:

on the Netmeeting panel select Tools then select Whiteboard 1-2.0

close any error messages – the blank whiteboard should remain visible

at the top of the blank whiteboard, click on File

select Open

Look in Desktop

locate the whiteboard file

double-click the file

a new whiteboard will open, with fresh data in red font

at the top of the whiteboard click on View

uncheck Toolbar and uncheck Status Bar

click on the Black Arrows at the bottom right-hand corner of the whiteboard to change pages

STEP 1

TO OPEN THE WHITEBOARD FILE

METHOD 2: double-click and run the file

in the online classroom double-click the WhiteBoard button

the new whiteboard will open and you should see data

if you dont see the new whiteboard, press the Start key on your keyboard, and look for the new whiteboard icon in your Task Bar

continue to step 2 below

If you get a whiteboard error then continue to METHOD 3

METHOD 3: right-click and run the file

in the online classroom right-click the WhiteBoard button

select Save Target As

the Save As panel will come up

select the Desktop icon and click on Save

the file will download

when download is complete click on the Open icon

if you get a file error " Windows cannot find file " , click Ok, the panels should disappear

the new whiteboard will open and you should see data

if you dont see the new whiteboard, press the Start key on your keyboard, and look for the new whiteboard icon in your Task Bar

continue to step 2 below

If you get a whiteboard error then continue to METHOD 4

METHOD 4: right-click and save the file

in the online classroom right-click the WhiteBoard button

select Save Target As

the Save As panel will come up

select the Desktop Icon and click on Save

the file will download

when download is complete click on the Close icon

go to the Desktop and double-click the file

the whiteboard will launch

if you get a file error or a whiteboard error, click Ok, the error will disappear

the new whiteboard will open and you should see data

if you dont see the new whiteboard, press the Start key on your keyboard, and look for the new whiteboard icon in your Task Bar

if you see a blank whiteboard then do the following

click Ok to get rid of any error messages

go to File at the top of the whiteboard

select Open

open your whiteboard file by selecting Desktop then double-click on the file

the new whiteboard will open and you should see data

if you dont see the new whiteboard, press the Start key on your keyboard, and look for the new whiteboard icon in your Task Bar

STEP 2

MINIMIZE THE WHITEBOARD

STEP 3

DISPLAY THE ONLINE CLASSROOM

after you have minimized the whiteboard, you should see the online classroom

if you dont see the online classroom, then find the Classroom Icon in your task-bar

press the Start-key on your keyboard to display the task-bar

STEP 4

RUN THE AUDIO-FILE

make sure that your speakers are connected to the correct ports in the back of the computer

make sure that the power cord of the speakers are plugged in the power socket

make sure that all your volume settings are turned up: speakers, keyboard, windows

make sure that your audio is not muted anywhere

double-click the green button Audio

Microsoft Mediaplayer will launch and you will hear audio

click here if you dont hear audio

the audio-file is a streaming file and it will start to play immediately after you click it

you will see the Windows MediaPlayer panel

click here if you dont see the panel

the MediaPlayer panel is only used for audio, there is no video content in it

all the data is displayed in the whiteboard

if you do not hear audio immediately, then your player does not stream the file

a streaming file start to play immediately while it downloads

you need to download Microsoft Mediaplayer

STEP 5

MAKE THE SIZE OF THE MEDIAPLAYER PANEL SMALLER

in this step we do not mean that you have to minimize the mediaplayer panel

we need to make the size of the panel small, so that it will not block the whiteboard

first maximize the mediaplayer panel

at the top icons, click on View

then select Skin Chooser

then select Revert Skin

then click on Apply Skin

the MediaPlayer panel will now be very small

move the panel to the upper-right corner of the screen so it will not block the whiteboard

STEP 6

DOCK THE MEDIAPLAYER

this is to keep the mediaplayer panel at the top of the screen

so that it will not disappear when you flip the pages in the whiteboard

right-click anywhere on the Mediaplayer panel

select Options

select Keep The Player On Top Of Other Windows

STEP 7

DISPLAY THE WHITEBOARD

look in the task-bar for the Whiteboard Icon

click the Whiteboard Icon, it will bring up the whiteboard

maximize the whiteboard

move the Mediaplayer panel at the upper right corner of the screen

STEP 8

HOW TO WORK WITH THE WHITEBOARD CONTROLS

look at the bottom-right corner of the whiteboard, you will see the pager

click on the black arrows, you can move forward and back

look at the top of the whiteboard icons, click on View

uncheck Toolbar

uncheck Status Bar

in the Mediaplayer panel you will find the following controls:

you can control the whiteboard and audio files independently

start the audio-file at the beginning and start the whiteboard file on page 1

listen to audio and flip to the next page in the whiteboard

you can stop either the whiteboard or audio-file at any time

IF YOU DO NOT HEAR AUDIO

remove all non-windows mediaplayers such as RealPlayer, AppleiTunes, JukeBox etc

The audio-file is designed to work best with Windows Mediaplayer which should already be in your computer

Check the following:
1. Volume is turned up on your speakers and keyboard
2. Volume is not muted
3. Speakers are connected and powered

If audio does not run, then do the following:
1. Uninstall all other players such as Apple, Realplayer, Jukebox etc.
2. Only keep Windows Mediaplayer
3. Click on the audio-link again, audio should default to the Windows Mediaplayer.

In case you still dont hear audio, then go to the Microsoft site at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx
1. Download the proper version of Windows Mediaplayer.
2. Select Mediaplayer to be your default player for audio

In case you still dont hear audio, then download a different MediaPlayer, see below

IF THE AUDIO SESSIONS DO NOT PLAY WITH ANY PLAYER Your firewall may block the whiteboard If you are not able to open the whiteboard then: a. disable the firewall b. use a computer which does not have a firewall Your home or company network router may interfere with THE AUDIO-FILES If this happens:use a computer which is not on the network

Please set your video resolution to 1024 x 768, this is the default resolution for the whiteboard

To set your resolution:

1. from your taskbar, click on Start.

2. then Settings.

3. then Control Panel.

4. then look for an icon which says Display, double click on it.

5. then click on Settings.

6. then adjust the slider to 1024 x 768.

7. you may have to reboot your computer to take the new settings.

The whiteboard is a CAD program and it is open-source:
you can type, draw, edit, move objects, print pages

to flip the pages:	work with the pager at the bottom-right corner of your screen

to add pages:	click on the + icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen

to insert/delete pages:	right-click, select Page Sorter OR look at the top, select Tools

to move objects:	right-click, select Selector OR look at the top, select Tools

to erase:	right-click, select Eraser OR look at the top, select Tools

to type on the whiteboard:	right-click, select text, tap the whiteboard, you will see a text-box OR look at the top, select Tools

to highlight:	right-click, select Highliter OR look at the top, select Tools

to write on the whiteboard:	right-click, select Pen OR look at the top, select Tools

to draw:	right-click, select Line, Rectangle, Ellipes etc OR look at the top, select Tools

to display the drawing palette:	look at the top, select View, then Toolbar

to change color:	look at the top, select Options

to change font:	look at the top, select Options

to change line width:	right-click, select Options

to print pages:	look at the top, select File then Print

to save the file:	look at the top, select File then Save As

You should hand-copy every page from the whiteboard to your paper EXCEPT the white sheets
White sheets are problems, you should work the problems yourself on your paper, then view the solution on the screen. After you have hand-solved the problem, you can print out the problem-page from the screen and file in your binder.

Use your hi-liter to make a colored band across the top of the page

THE PAGES IN THE WHITEBOARD ARE COLOR-CODED
BLUE SHEET	BLOCK OF TOPICS	HANDCOPY	On your paper make a BLUE band across the top and copy the title.
PINK SHEET	THEORY SHEET	HANDCOPY	On your paper make a PINK band across the top, handcopy the contents and listen to the theory.
WHITE SHEET	PROBLEM SHEET	DO NOT COPY	It is essential that you first hand-solve the assigned problem then view the solution.
GREEN SHEET	CALCULATOR ROUTINE	HANDCOPY	On your paper make a GREEN band across the top and copy the title.
YELLOW SHEET	REVIEW SHEET	HANDCOPY	On your paper make a YELLOW band across the top and copy the title.

After each session, file your handwritten sheets in a binder
Then print out all the whiteboard material and file in the same binder as explained in the start-up session S1 in the online classroom.
